Community Support

Prevent Blindness

We consider all of the cities, towns and small communities where National Vision Inc. operates our "hometown." Our store associates, opticians and managers live and work in these communities, and have a strong understanding of the specific needs of their areas. It is important to National Vision, Inc. that the charity we support directly impacts the areas in which we do business.

National Vision and Prevent Blindness America have joined as partners in the effort to raise the public's awareness of proper eye care and eye safety. Prevent Blindness America is the nation's leading volunteer eye health organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. Founded in 1908, Prevent Blindness serves millions of people each year through public, patient and professional education; community programs research and vision screenings for children.

These vision screenings provide early detection of eye disorders for preschoolers at risk for sight-threatening conditions like amblyopia; school children whose academic, athletic and social performance depends on good vision; and adults threatened by glaucoma and other serious vision problems.

National Vision also supports the community abroad through an initiative called "Serving the Billion."

Our Mission is to create and grow a sustainable extreme low cost eyewear services model focused on serving both the hyperopic and myopic populations in the developing world. Sustainability and growth will be achieved by employing the micro-funding entrepreneurial model as a basis for both product delivery and the creation of jobs in social and economic environments not normally conducive to serving the vision correction segment. The "Serving The Billion" project strives for the highest level of simplicity in process, manufacturing, delivery and management oversight, while providing a product that meets both fashion and quality demands of those we serve.

Our Method is designed to address those populations where repeat access to eyewear solutions is a significant barrier to the delivery of affordable solutions to basic visual acuity issues. The problem of providing refractive correction to the masses of under- or unserved populations requires the use of many solutions. These range from increased education and training of professionals and paraprofessionals to distribution of donated previously used eyewear. Although the problem is complex, it is clear that there is no one universal solution. The "Serving The Billion" methodology centers around leveraging high tech global manufacturing and communication to provide a low-tech base entrepreneurial refractive correction delivery model.
