National Vision uses energy efficient lighting, including upgrading to LEDs where possible. LEDs are more than 75% more energy efficient than incandescent lighting, and each bulb lasts up to 25 times longer before needing to be replaced.
Associates are able to manage the highly automated production process through a Schneider Control Center. This increases safety by minimizing interactions with multiple machines.
Lenses are cut into individual prescriptions using MEI automated edging machines. Automated technologies help our labs work faster with greater quality controls — while also reducing our lab associates’ exposure to moving machinery with potential for injury.
Every lens undergoes a final inspection before being sent out to National Vision’s distribution center in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The centralized shipping capability helps get glasses into customers’ hands quickly and at the lowest cost.
Excess material from the cutting of prescription lenses is compressed into compact blocks that are one-twentieth of the size of the loose material. This results in more efficient waste management with fewer trips to landfills, and less space taken up by the material we are unable to recycle.
