Dr. Hellan-Pangelinan provides an exam to a child in Micronesia

Dr. Asinech Hellan-Pangelinan, OD, always aspired to make a difference in her community. Born and raised in the Federated States of Micronesia, she began her journey by earning an associate degree in health and wellness from the College of Micronesia-FSM. Dr. Hellan-Pangelinan came to the U.S. to further her education, where she discovered her passion for optometry through an inspiring visit from National Vision’s Doctor of Optometry student relations team.

The team’s encouragement to “just apply” resonated deeply, and she followed their advice. She soon joined the National Vision Doctor of Optometry network, where she quickly established herself as a compassionate and skilled doctor. This role provided her with the resources and flexibility to excel professionally while balancing her life as a mother of three.

“My practice let me tour numerous locations to get the hang of things and gave me time to adjust to the pace of seeing patients.” -Dr. Hellan-Pangelinan

In 2015, Dr. Hellan-Pangelinan founded EyeCare Micronesia to bring essential vision care to her homeland and Micronesian communities in the U.S. Supported by National Vision’s Doctor of Optometry network and Restoring Vision, she has conducted vision screenings for thousands of children, providing eyeglasses and creating brighter futures.
