Dr. Dawn Kamin-Butler’s path to optometry was inspired by a deep desire to help people—an instinct she traces back to her mother, a nurse. Though she initially considered a broader career in medicine, a high school class in vision science opened her eyes to the life-changing impact of optometry. After graduating from Southern College of Optometry in 1994, she spent 25 years running a private practice, managing everything from patient care to billing and frame repairs.

Dr. Kamin-Butler joined the National Vision Doctor of Optometry network seeking more time to focus on patients and less on the business side. She now practices at Nashville Regional Eye Care, P.C., where she enjoys a tech-supported environment, a collaborative team and a better work-life balance.

“I just get to do what I do best—help people see. The support and flexibility here are incredible.” - Dr. Kamin-Butler

She also participates in the network’s remote care model, allowing her to support other offices throughout Tennessee when her schedule permits, and receive support herself when needed. Her office is equipped with advanced technology, including touchscreen autorefractors and both retinal and anterior segment imaging, and her techs are cross-trained to keep patient care running smoothly across the board.

As an OD Ambassador, Dr. Kamin-Butler mentors new doctors and shares feedback to help practices across the network grow and improve. Reflecting on her transition, she’s found renewed purpose in a role that centers clinical care and professional connection without sacrificing personal time or support.
