Job Responsibilities

The Business Applications Analyst is responsible for analyzing business processes, defining requirements, and partnering with subject matter experts to support the design and delivery of custom-built business applications. This role works closely with product owners, architects, and software engineers to translate business needs into functional specifications and support the development of scalable solutions built on platforms such as OutSystems (low-code), ServiceNow, and custom .NET applications (web, mobile, and API-based). The analyst ensures that applications are user-centric, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals by optimizing workflows, validating feature design, and supporting all phases of the application lifecycle.

Solution Analysis & Design

  • Leads discovery and requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders to understand business problems, user needs, and operational workflows.
  • Translates requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, wireframes, and functional specifications for development teams.
  • Partners with architects and engineering teams to evaluate solution options and ensure designs adhere to technical and business standards.
  • Supports the creation of prototypes and conceptual designs to validate requirements and improve user experience.

Application Development Lifecycle Support

  • Collaborates with developers to clarify requirements and validate technical designs throughout the development cycle.
  • Participates in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, and retrospectives.
  • Creates and executes test cases, coordinates UAT with business users, and ensures solutions meet acceptance criteria before release.
  • Provides production support by triaging issues, conducting root cause analysis, and recommending enhancements.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyzes current-state business processes to identify pain points, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation or digitization.
  • Recommends improvements to workflows and application functionality to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
  • Assists with developing solution roadmaps, feature prioritization, and strategic planning for custom applications.
  • Supports change management activities, including documentation, training support, and stakeholder communication.

Data & Integration Support

  • Works with data teams to define reporting, analytics, and data integration needs related to custom applications.
  • Supports requirements for API-based integrations, data exchange workflows, and cross-system functionality.

General Responsibilities

  • Partners collaboratively across technical and business teams to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
  • Manages multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience

  • 2-4 years Related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)

Education

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience. Degree fields may include business administration, information systems, computer science, or related fields. (Required)

Licenses, Certifications, Professional Affiliations

  • CBAP, CCBA, or PMI-PBA (Preferred)
  • Technical analysis or UX certifications (Preferred)

Additional Skills

    • Strong understanding of modern application concepts, including APIs, cloud platforms, integration patterns, and data flows. (Required)
    • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) and backlog management tools (ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, or similar). (Required)
    • Ability to translate complex business problems into clear and actionable requirements. (Required)
    • Strong communication skills for facilitating sessions, documenting clearly, and presenting to all levels. (Required)
    • Analytical mindset with experience using SQL, Excel, or similar tools. (Required)
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively. (Required)
    • Experience with prototyping tools such as Figma, Miro, or Visio. (Preferred)
    • Background in UI/UX collaboration or user research. (Preferred)
