Raghu Murthy, M.D.

Raghu Murthy, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist with nearly two decades of experience. He prides himself on providing compassionate care with a patient-centered approach, which extends not only to his role of President of Redwood Sage, P.C., where he oversees multiple offices in California, but also to his role of chief pediatric retinal specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Murthy is also on staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital, San Gabriel Valley Medical Center and Glendale Memorial Medical Center. In every facet of his clinical care, he seeks to apply his love of research and passion for detecting and managing diabetic retinopathy. He has been involved in several large studies sponsored by the National Eye Institute and has authored papers and book chapters. He is also a principal investigator for diabetic macular edema and age-related macular degeneration clinical trials in private practice.

Dr. Murthy received his medical degree from the University of Florida School of Medicine before completing his residency in ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. He followed this with a fellowship training in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery and a separate fellowship in Gene Therapy for ocular diseases at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Beyond his optometric education, Dr. Murthy also holds a B.A. from Princeton University. His language fluency also aids in his ability to provide care to patients representing a breadth of backgrounds, as Dr. Murthy is fluent in Spanish, French and Kannada.

Dr. Murthy believes in giving back to the community and is very active in educating both health care professionals and patients about diseases of the retina. He is a clinical instructor at the University of Southern California and provides bedside teaching to the pediatricians and residents at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center regarding eye diseases. He also volunteers his time with many different organizations, including the Los Angeles chapter of The Foundation Fighting Blindness. When he’s not volunteering, mentoring or treating patients, you can find Dr. Murthy spending time with his wife, daughter and sons. He also enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, riding motorcycles, hiking, traveling and filmmaking.
